Helen most recently served as the founder and Executive Director of Vermont-based UP for Learning (Unleashing the Power of Partnership for Learning) and is currently a Senior Consultant for the organization.  As a licensed School Psychologist and Educational Consultant, she has specialized in strategies to build school cultures in which youth are both engaged and empowered as learners and change agents.  Her professional path reflects a life-long passion for elevating the voices of those who feel disempowered and voiceless, either in the health or education realms.  When she first moved to Hardwick in 1986 she served as the Director of Northern Counties Health Centers.  This experience with the Hardwick and Greensboro Health Centers, and others throughout the Kingdom, seeded her deep respect for the resilience, compassion and ingenuity of communities in this region. Her later experience as a School Psychologist in this same region, has contributed to her commitment to the community and equitable access to resources.

Helen Beattie

Tom’s work over the last 15+ years has focused on making the economics of environmentally sound, community-led rural enterprises sustainable. His advisory work has migrated over time from strategy and policy engagements toward structuring financial products and services targeting these rural businesses. He founded ISF Advisors, a capital advisory firm, and has helped grow Aceli Africa, an incentive facility based overseas, both of which focus on blending public and private capital to support economic development. Previously, Tom was a Partner at the strategy consulting firm Dalberg Advisors; he currently serves as a senior advisor to several organizations he helped build.
Tom and his family are based in Chevy Chase, MD, but have a home in Greensboro, VT. After two decades of traveling to Vermont, they found their place in the Northeast Kingdom and endeavor to spend as much time in the community as possible.

Tom Carroll

Christina Goodwin of Worcester, Vermont, brings over twenty years of experience in Vermont’s nonprofit sector and has successfully raised nearly $20 million across numerous sub-sectors: food security and access, environmental conservation, health and wellness, education, and housing. Christina is currently the Development Director at Dismas of Vermont. Previous professional roles include the Vice President for Advancement at Vermont’s Sterling College, her alma mater, the Executive Director of HomeShare Now which later was acquired by HomeShare Vermont, and the Director of the Lamoille County Conservation District.

Blair Marvin is co-owner of Elmore Mountain Bread and New American Stone Mills with her husband, Andrew Heyn, in Elmore, Vermont. She was born and raised in Johnson, Vermont then moved to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a culinary degree. After working in restaurants on both coasts, Blair returned home and has spent the past 15 years baking wood-fired sourdough breads for her community. She is also a partner in Fire Tower Pizza, a small pizza shop and community project that uses her fresh milled flour and Vermont ingredients. She is a vocal advocate for the development of relationships between farmers and bakers as a means to strengthen food systems and local grain economies, speaking and teaching across the country. Elmore Mountain Bread has become a destination for chefs and bakers from around the world seeking to learn about wood-fired ovens, milling, and baking with local, organic fresh flour.

Blair Marvin

Through Elmore Mountain Consulting, Peter brings a wealth of experience to his clients having held senior positions in banking, investment management, and higher education over a long and diverse career. Most recently he served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Sterling College where he helped the college navigate through a period of financial and other challenges resulting from negative industry trends and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He also remains a co-owner of Elmore Mountain Farm, a Vermont farm-based manufacturer of natural body care products that he founded with his wife in 2006. Prior to this he served as a founding member and portfolio manager for two start-up investment management companies and as a Managing Director at the Bank of Boston where he held various management positions in the bank&#8217;s restructuring, leveraged finance and investment banking groups. Peter attended Middlebury College where he graduated with a BA in economics.

Peter Merrill

After nearly a decade on Capitol Hill, Libby launched Mullin Strategies in 1999. Over the last 24 years, Libby has worked with large and small non-profit organizations as well as Fortune 500 companies, helping her clients think and act strategically to advance their policy goals, broaden their partnerships and increase their visibility. Libby has also worked extensively with non-profit organizations on building their boards and growing their funding.
Libby has a particular interest in working at the intersection of the private and non-profit sectors to advance mutually beneficial policies. Much of her career has been spent expanding and now stabilizing health coverage for children via the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program.
Currently, Libby is running a multi stakeholder federal coalition on child nutrition, where she is working with advocates in health to advance bold and equitable policy solutions to nutrition insecurity and educate policymakers that “food is medicine.” Her understanding and growing appreciation for local food as both a source for better health and a more sustainable economy is rooted in spending her summers in the Northeast Kingdom. Libby is now lucky enough to spend nearly half her year in Vermont and resides the other months in Chevy Chase, MD or visiting her three children across the country.

Libby Mullin

<div class="field-board-organization">Raised on a farm in East Hardwick, Ben is proud to be a life-long farmer, and to call this region home. After graduating from Hazen Union High School in 2001, Ben received a BS in Forest Management from the University of Maine in Orono. In 2007 he moved back to the family farm, to help grow the business that he co-owns with his wife and parents. Snug Valley Farm raises grass-fed and finished beef, pastured pork, and 5 acres of pumpkins, which started as Ben’s project when he was only 6. Ben spent five years teaching at the Green Mountain Technical and Career center where he worked with juniors and seniors to expose them to the forest industry trade with projects like building the new bog bridge at Atkins Field. Ben has been a fan of the CAE since it was founded, and uses the Vermont Food Venture Center for storage and distribution. Ben views his role on the board as a way to give back to the community, and promote the local food system that he deeply believes in.</div>

Ben Nottermann

Margie and Roger moved to E. Hardwick in 2016, but have deep roots in the NEK. Nearly three decades ago, they met and married here, and their children attended Burke Mtn Academy as they grew.
Besides the NEK, Margie and her family lived on a small farm in rural south central PA with three kids, gardens and a small flock of sheep and other critters. After managing the family, and shuttling back and forth between Burke and PA, Margie now manages Greensboro Brook Farm, here in our community. Between being in the fields, volunteering and getting outside, she also supports her daughter Corinne, an entrepreneur and small business owner of Skida Hats and Headwear in Burlington VT (<a href="http://www.skida.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=http://www.skida.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1504015832160000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHkz7Vj2u8Ejw9Mc841TYwwcDQj7g">www.skida.com</a>), as a jill-of-all-trades.
She attributes her focus on farms and food to her father; a life long gardener. The vitality of local farms and local food resonates most uniquely for her in the NEK.

Margie Prevot

Fan was the Program Manager at <a href="http://gainingground.org/">Gaining Ground</a>, a non-profit, regenerative farm growing produce exclusively for hunger relief. She organized the scheduling of several thousand volunteers and the distribution of 150,000 pounds of fresh produce annually to a dozen food pantries in eastern Massachusetts. In addition, she coordinated outreach and events, the most memorable being a traditional barn raising with two hundred community volunteers.
As part of Sustainable Business Network, Fan co-founded the first Boston Local Food Festival, a zero waste &#8220;healthy local food for all&#8221; event for 30,000 attendees, the Boston Local Food Trade Show connecting farms to institutions, and a series of ALLocalDinners in local restaurants. Fan has been a long term board member at Codman Community Farms in Lincoln, MA, a working farm rotationally grazing livestock to regenerate the land while producing locally grown food and community educational opportunities.
First introduced to CAE&#8217;s vision for the NEK in 2009, Fan is delighted to now be living in Greensboro.
